Despite nearly ten years elapsing since the financial crisis, average ROE has faltered. Indeed, four of the last five years have seen rates of less than 10% in the world’s leading investment banks. Further, the top ten global CMIB banks posted declining revenues for the third straight year (McKinsey).
Attempts to restructure operations in light of the 2008 crash have failed to produce sustainable results, with high operating costs consistently undermining performance. This worrying trend demands action – so, is it time for a radical shift in approach to operations in finance?
As a senior strategic leader, what are the most promising avenues for innovation within capital market operations? Is it possible to drive transformational change in operating costs without a revolution in the way that costs are measured, monitored and understood?
And why are more and more industry leaders taking efficiency cues from sectors like manufacturing and retail?
These questions will form the heart of our collaborative discussion, chaired by John Da Gama-Rose of Deloitte, at the Hidden Edge Club. At the Andaz London Liverpool Street on the 7th of June, join 15 other senior leaders to discuss and debate these issues over a five-star, three-course meal. Club rules dictate that there are no presentations and the evening is entirely confidential, enabling genuine insights and experiences to be shared in an intimate, engaging setting.

The Hidden Edge Club meets quarterly to discuss major challenges to decision makers across a variety of sectors. On the 7th June, the Club will come together to share insights and drive debate around the topic of operational efficiency in the financial sector. In particular, we’re exploring whether operational innovation deserves to reach the top of your agenda, and if so, how such changes can be best implemented in order to drive competitive advantage.
If you’re interested in hearing your peers’ experiences of the pitfalls, pressures and opportunities presented by a fresh approach to operational efficiency, we’d be delighted for you to join us. We’ll be meeting at 6:30PM for introductory drinks and networking before moving into the private dining area for our discussion over a three-course meal. Guests are invited to enjoy a glass of wine after dining, with carriages bringing the evening to a close at roughly 9:30PM.
